Universal Studios, Orlando
Universal Orlando consists of two theme parks. The oldest is Universal Studios and the newer one is Islands of Adventure. Both theme parks use the same car park area and so it can get very busy getting to park your car and walking to the entrances. It has a very different feel to Disney which you have to experience to understand.
Once you have parked the car, moved along the moving walkways and walked along City Walk you take a right turn to head towards the huge entrance gate to Universal Studios. When you get through the ticket and bag inspection you are straight into the action.
The attractions are quite close together so you can move between them easily, although be prepared to queue. The big ride here is The Mummy which is a roller coaster so best to ride this first to beat any long queues. This is not for the little ones but there is plenty to amuse all ages from Shrek to Men in Black and Woody Woodpeckers Kidzone.
There are a number of shows for all ages ranging from The Blues Brothers through to Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue. There are also other shows just performed on the streets so watch out for those. All the attractions are themed around films or TV characters that are very familiar.
There are the usual themed restaurants which range from a full meal to just a light snack. There are also lots of stalls selling very tasty snacks if you get peckish while strolling around. Although there is no parade at Universal they do now have a firework and themed show in an evening.
This is a fantastic park and great when you need a break from the Disney way. Don’t think you can do the park in one day, you are best to allow two full days to see everything!
